How to Choose Your First Vibrating Egg
If you are buying your first vibrating egg, the spec sheet can feel like alphabet soup. The good news: most of it does not matter. Four things do — material, size, how you control it, and how you clean it. Here is how to think about each one.
Material: this is the one non-negotiable
The body of the egg should be food-grade or medical-grade silicone. Silicone is non-porous, easy to sterilise, and safe for body contact. Anything described vaguely as "jelly", "TPR" or unspecified "soft plastic" belongs in the bin — porous materials are hard to clean fully and degrade over time.
Size and shape: smaller is a feature, not a downgrade
- A compact, streamlined body (roughly finger-thick) is easier to handle and position for a first toy.
- A retrieval cord or loop is a must — it makes removal simple and stress-free.
- A rounded, seamless surface with no sharp seams is more comfortable and easier to clean.
Control: pick the way you actually use it
- On-body button control — the simplest; nothing to lose, works out of the box.
- Wireless remote control — best for partner play; check the line-of-sight range (10 m is typical).
- App control — flexible patterns and long-distance play, but you accept pairing and charging overhead.
Cleaning and storage: 60 seconds that decide lifespan
Rinse with warm water and mild soap after every use, let it dry fully, and store it in a case — away from dust and away from other silicone toys that can react with each other. Look for a toy that is easy to clean: one you can rinse under running water makes maintenance much simpler.
